Our Cape Town Stay at the Beautiful Bay Hotel

Updated: Sep 30

We absolutely love Cape Town and stay at different locations each year we visit to truly make the most of the South Africa's picturesque mother city.

On this trip we focused on more time on Boulders Beach, False Bay, Kalk Bay and Muizenberg via the Chapman’s Peak drive, and spent some time in Constantia, the Waterfront & Table Mountain. It was our baby's first trip to South Africa so we wanted to pack as much as possible in!

For this reason and because we love the beach, we stayed at The Bay Hotel located at the best spot on Camps Bay. If offers easy access to the Chapman’s Peak drive, is close proximity (15 minutes) from Table Mountain, Downtown and the V&A Waterfront; and is just a 30 minute drive from Constantia, Cape Town's in city wineland. For those who don’t know, Camps Bay is a upmarket part of the city, known for it's amazing beaches, outstanding views of the ocean and mountains, and ‘strip’ of trendy cafes, bars and restaurants.

The hotel is relaxed, with super friendly staff, contemporary decor but also fulfils its 5 star status by combining luxury, which epitomises it’s prime Camps Bay location. It’s one of the coolest spots to be at in Cape Town, with direct access to the Camps Bay beach across the road, and many trendy ‘it’ eateries shouldering it on either side on the strip. This leaves you easy access to the white sands, beautiful cocktails and fabulous views of the ocean and mountains.

Upon arrival we were greeted with warm South African welcomes and were offered a glass of wine. We were given a small tour of the hotel then walked over to our sea facing suite which had a balcony for the most amazing sea views. The rooms are large and very child friendly. It was so spacious and safe for our little one to crawl around, he truly loved it. The bathrooms hosts two sinks, a separate bathtub and shower, which made getting ready with a baby so much easier, and was prepped with luxurious l’occitane toiletries. A fully packed mini bar was available together with a complimentary nespresso coffee maker and SMEG kettle, which made making babies formula, and my morning coffee, so simple.

At The Bay Hotel, there are two restaurants and bars at your disposal. The Tides restaurant is available for a wonderful breakfast everyday and offers outstanding views of the beach. There was so much light streaming through, delectable food at the buffet, and even a formal menu for special orders such as french toast and eggs benedict. We enjoyed a wonderful champagne breakfast and just loved the smoothies!

The Bistro is located close to the pool for lunch and dinner delights. We had dinner there one night and our lovely waiter gave us a small break during dinner by playing the piano for our little one in the hotel reception. How sweet is that?! There’s also an option of dining at The Camps Bay Retreat’s Von Kamptz restaurant. Located just 2 minutes away, we had access to 4 acres of lush green nature reserve in the heart of Camps Bay. The food was amazing!

The hotel also has ‘The Mint Spa’ for a variety of body and facial treatments, and also offers in room treatments if if you fancy this instead. We didn’t manage to find time for a treatment on this trip, but I will definitely be opting for the Bay Signature Massage on our next trip. The Bay offered us an excellent stay and we are so grateful for their unbeatable hospitality and friendliness (especially baby friendliness)!

As far as facilities go, the hotel has a family pool with unbeatable views of the ocean and the Sandy Beach Club, an adults only pool area with similar views and direct access to the Traders Bar and lounge which plays super cool lounge music. We had a swim in the solar-heated family pool which also has the most awesome pool floats and had a great time! On the first floor you will also find Caamil’s Bar for excellent cocktails and a great range of South African wines. If you need any further tips on visiting Cape Town, and South Africa, please feel free to contact me.

We visit Cape Town every year, have high standards as we know what to expect, but this hotel surpassed expectations for us. We look forward to staying soon again!

Much Love
