For our son’s 8th birthday, we chose Komodo National Park. His one wish? To see a Komodo dragon — fierce, fascinating, and unlike anything you’d find in London. 🐉

But for me as a career-driven mother, this trip was about more than dragons. It was about perspective.

We hiked Padar Island, where the views left us speechless.
We snorkeled in crystal-clear waters, surrounded by reefs and fish more colourful than any classroom book.

Raising a child in London means constant pressure — the competition, the standards, the fast pace. My son earned his place at one of the city’s top private schools, where the academic expectations are incredibly high and he had to sit a series of intense exams when he was 6. And I’ll never let go of that foundation.

I almost didn’t want to share this one @gayaislandresort ❤️

After days in the jungle finding orangutans, pygmy elephants, probiscus monkeys and crocodiles, this island retreat off the coast of Borneo felt like an oasis I had only dreamed of.

The resort turned out to be even better than it looked online — an amazing reef right off the beach within a protected national park, jungle treks with monkeys, turtle & coral rehabilitation programmes, cooking classes, craft workshops, dinners by the beach with the most incredible cultural entertainment, movies under the stars, and possibly the best food of our whole trip.

Yes, the weather was moody (Borneo doesn’t play by “dry season” rules 😁) but, rain or shine, it was unforgettable. You will also find the kindest & friendliest staff here.

Kuala Lumpur was the city break we didn’t expect to love this much: rich in culture, easy to navigate, and full of surprising contrasts. It’s perfect for families: friendly locals, reasonably priced, delicious diverse food, child-embracing, and many opportunities to create core memories with your kids.

Highlights:
🕌 Thean Hou Temple – ornate, peaceful, and perched above the city with some of the best views in town.
🕌 Masjid Jamek – serene riverside beauty and a glimpse into Malaysia’s Islamic heritage.
🌈 Batu Caves – the 272 steps are worth every breath for the golden statue, vibrant Hindu shrines, and wild monkeys.
🌆 Ascott Star KLCC – our base in the city, with a rooftop pool that gave us front-row seats to the Petronas Towers and easy access to incredible local food. The hotel has a kids club, family pool, large suites with a washer-dryer, and also a rooftop pool with the most iconic views.
🍛 Little India (Brickfields) – full of flavour, colour, and the best banana leaf lunch we’ve had in Southeast Asia.
🌃 Jalan Alor Night Market – yes it’s chaotic, but yes, you need to go. Street food heaven.

KL often gets overlooked in favour of flashier cities—but we found it warm, modern, and full of depth. Family-friendly, culturally rich, and easy on the wallet. A perfect 3-day city escape.

Our first stop in Thailand which taught us so many lessons. We didn’t come here just to ‘see’ the elephants. I wanted my son to be close to something bigger than him and know how to respond — calmly, respectfully.

We’re planning a month in South East Asia in Summer. And even though I am super excited, this is absolutely not and what we will not be doing.

On our Thailand trip, we visited Monkey Beach in Koh Phi Phi. It looked stunning and peaceful. But we watched monkeys attack children and adults, completely unprovoked.

The monkeys in many of tourist areas are acclimatised to being fed and get aggressive if you don’t give them food.

Luckily there was a rabies clinic only 5 minutes away who apparently see loads of these cases every single day.

Locals later told us: “These monkeys don’t like children. Don’t take your children anywhere near them.” It might be about the ‘survival of the fittest instinct’ and these monkeys see kids as their ‘small’ competitive opponents so attack them.

No one warns you about this. So I am.

If you’re headed to Southeast Asia—skip the wild monkey beaches or temples. Especially if you have small children. It’s just not worth it.

We chose @andana_resort for the views, the pasta & wine, and the promise of Tuscan serenity.

What we didn’t account for was our son umpiring our tennis match mid-bite of a ham and cheese sandwich that was delivered to him on the tennis court. Or calling room service from the clawfoot tub “to order the pappardelle with ragu”.

It wasn’t the silent, slow luxury I pictured. But in between barefoot races through olive groves, garden games at sunset, and watching him fall asleep to birdsong with muddy knees and a full belly… it was something better.

Also, I ate one of the best pastas of my life.
Fresh prawns. Lemon zest. Creamy burrata melting on top. The kind of dish that ruins you for anything else. I think about it every time I open a jar of pesto in London.

We took a chance on Tuscany in May—half term, entering high season, slightly unpredictable weather earlier in the month — but when we arrived it was perfect.

It was the Instagram-perfect kind (the cypressi trees did cooperate), and yet the kind where you get slow mornings in stone-walled farmhouses, plates of pici, gnocci crema and cacio e pepe with no rush to leave the table, and vineyards that don’t mind if your child is chasing butterflies between the vines.

May here is golden but soft. Fewer crowds. Baby wild boars on the roadside (yes, really). The kind of weather where you can pack linen, a light jumper for the evening, and your sandals—and wear all three in one day.

We ventured into the big cities and also stayed in the hills and by the sea. Walked as far as my sprained ankle would allow (luckily at the end of the trip), watched the sun shift across the valley, and remembered why we started prioritising holidays that let us actually rest.

Tuscany in May isn’t just a destination. It’s a gentle reminder to slow down before summer rushes in.

I’ll never forget my stay at Kempinski Engelberg!
It was my first time skiing at Klostermatte, and Kempinski made everything so much fun. I loved the warm swimming pool after skiing (swimming while it was snowing was the best!), and the kids club had so many cool things to do. At dinner, we had games and yummy food with new friends at Cattani, and when we arrived, there were amazing sweets waiting in the room just for me! The best surprise was getting my own cuddly beaver to take home. Our room had the best mountain views, and I loved waking up every morning to see all the snow. It was one of my favorite holidays ever, and I hope we can go back soon!

There’s something truly special about the Black Forest—a family holiday place that feels straight out of a fairytale, with its misty woodlands, serene lakes, and charming villages. We left with full hearts and unforgettable memories. It’s where Hansel & Gretel and Red Riding Hood were set, inspiration for Brothers Grimm, so you can imagine the fantasy in this location.

🌍 How to get there?
- Fly into Frankfurt, Strasbourg or Stuttgart and drive into the region (approximately 1-2 hours depending on your airport arrival) starting from Baden-Baden, down to Feldberg then Freiburg then back up to Gernsbach, if you please. Heidelberg is a wonderful stop at the start or end, even if not traditionally part of the region.

🌲 What Made Us Fall in Love:
- Standing before the majestic Triberg Waterfalls, listening to the rush of water surrounded by towering pines— like stepping into nature’s embrace.
- Wandering through Freiburg, with its cobblestone streets and stunning cathedral, made us feel as if we’d stepped back in time.
- The peace of Lake Titisee, where the still waters mirrored the sky, was the kind of tranquility you can carry with you.
- Savoring a slice of authentic Black Forest cake—rich, indulgent.
- Driving the iconic Black Forest High Road, where every turn revealed another breathtaking view, reminded us of the beauty in every journey.
- Racing down the Hasenhorn Coaster, the longest mountain coaster in Germany—it was exhilarating!
- Exploring the home of cuckoo clocks including the largest in the world

📍 Where We Called Home:
- Feldberg welcomed us with its warmth and charm, while Gernsbach stole our hearts with its culinary delights and incredible wines

1. Colmar is known as the town that inspired Beauty and the beast and is a fairytale at its best! Nearest airport is Strasbourg, Frankfurt or Stuttgart and it’s just 1 hour away from the next location

2. Strasbourg is known as the capital of Christmas and has the best Christmas decor in my humble opinion! Adorned in ornaments and teddy bears at every corner, the city is a delight!

3. Lesser known Magdeburg is just 1.5 hours from Berlin and beats most other markets in Germany when it comes to authenticity, beauty and decor. I prepared this reel before the awful attack this Christmas on this beautiful little town with one of the best Xmas markets in Germany. Sending them much peace and love ❤️

4. Of course, you can never go wrong visiting Frankfurt, Cologne, Berlin or Nuremberg Christmas markets in Germany.
