THE KENSINGTON DIARY
The Kensington Diary is a luxury family travel and lifestyle platform based in London, exploring luxury family hotels, family safaris, formative travel experiences, education, wellbeing, and intentional family life.
Hello, I’m Shanti.
I’m a medical strategist, a mother, and the founder of The Kensington Diary.
Raised in South Africa and shaped by more than two decades of life in London, particularly in Kensington & Chelsea, I write about luxury family travel, exceptional hotels, education, wellbeing, and modern family life through a blend of lived experience, local knowledge, cultural insight, and evidence-based thinking.
This platform began during maternity leave and has evolved alongside our family ever since. Our family life spans UK, South Africa and Europe, and through travel I became increasingly interested in the environments, cultures, landscapes, wildlife and experiences that expand perspective, build confidence and leave a lasting imprint long after we return. What started as a creative outlet gradually became a place to explore a question I found myself returning to again and again:
How do we raise capable, curious children while building ambitious, fulfilling lives ourselves?
Having spent my career in global healthcare and medical strategy, I naturally think in terms of long term outcomes, behaviour, environment, and the factors that quietly shape who we become over time.
This thinking led me to develop the Formative Travel Framework™, a developmental framework exploring how travel, environment and lived experience influence judgement, resilience, perspective, emotional regulation and long-term capability in both children and adults.
Luxury Formative Family Travel™ is one application of that framework, exploring how intentional travel experiences can support curiosity, confidence, adaptability and worldview development within families. Rather than viewing travel as entertainment or escape alone, it views experiences as developmental inputs that shape how we think, adapt and engage with the world
While good schools matter enormously, and I am a firm believer in a solid, traditional education, some of the most important lessons happen outside the classroom through exposure, experience, challenge, culture, conversation, and everyday life. Alongside writing about UK's independent school sector and the educational journeys many families navigate such as 4+, 7+ to 11+ entry, I am particularly interested in how children develop intellectual confidence, adaptability, and perspective over time.
My medical background, particularly my years spent in longevity science, also shapes how I approach wellbeing and ageing. I am interested in habits, environments, and decisions that help us sustain health, energy, confidence, and clarity throughout demanding careers, family life, and constant movement.
Today, The Kensington Diary sits at the intersection of luxury formative family travel, childhood development, education, wellbeing, and modern family life.
The Kensington Diary is for ambitious families who believe that travel, education, and everyday life are not separate pursuits, but interconnected experiences that powerfully shape who our children, and we become.
